Physician-Managed Elder Care at Home
Ready Hands was founded in 2002 by Granger Benson, M.D., an Internal Medicine physician. Dr. Benson previously practiced in Florida before becoming a medical executive with a large multispecialty physician group. His experiences caring for the elderly convinced him of the need for accountable caregiver services that combine the benefits of an assisted living facility with the advantages of staying in comfortable home surroundings where the client and family are in control. Accountability means meeting the home care needs and expectations of our clients and families on their terms. Client control over their elder care at home means that we accept the obligation of doing whatever necessary to assure client satisfaction. We offer senior home care in Manassas, Arlington, Alexandria, Woodbridge, Fairfax, and throughout the rest of Northern Virginia.
A Virginia-Licensed Home Care Agency
Virginia law says that a company offering “hands-on” assistance with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting assistance, etc.) must be licensed as a home care organization. Ready Hands is licensed by the Virginia Department of Health to provide such personal home caregiver services. Many Virginia home care agencies aren’t. Licensure means that Ready Hands complies with extensive regulations designed to protect clients and their families and undergoes unannounced, detailed biennial inspections.
Great Home Caregivers for Every Need
Some of our clients mainly require a home companion for socialization, errands, safety supervision, meals and household tasks. Others are profoundly disabled and need total care, sometimes including tube feedings, the use of specialized mobility aides or other advanced modalities. Some may even be receiving end of life care under a hospice program. (In fact, for many of our clients, the only alternative to our senior home care would be a nursing home, since they are too disabled to qualify for a typical assisted living facility.) Since we require that every single Ready Hands home caregiver be properly credentialed as a Certified Nurse Aide (C.N.A.), we can do it all. We find just the right C.N.A. for each client, regardless of the level of need, and make sure he or she receives necessary supervision by one of our full-time registered nurses.
Doing What’s Right for You, not What’s Best for Business
Companies providing senior home care commonly emulate certain ways of doing things that are prevalent in the industry. For example, they hire marketing professionals to drum up business in their communities. They create operational silos whereby staffing, scheduling and recruiting functions are performed by different administrative personnel. They use answering services rather than having supervisors and managers take after-hours calls directly.
We have never done any of that. We charted our own course from the beginning, guided only by our desire to deliver excellent elder care at home for our clients. At Ready Hands, our owners and managers are the face of our business, not marketing surrogates. We take all after-hours calls directly. Our office staff is extensively cross-trained. Hiring and scheduling decisions are made collaboratively with heavy involvement by the nursing supervisors who know our clients best.
Delivering on our Promises to Clients
One of our core values is to avoid creating expectations which we cannot meet well. Some clients pose circumstances that can make it difficult for us to accomplish their requests. Examples would be unusual schedules, intermittent respite care needs, infrequent visits, isolated transportation services or requests for a home caregiver who speaks a particular foreign language. We often make alternative suggestions to callers if we feel our services would not be the best solution. Of one thing you can be sure: when we offer you a service, you or your loved one will receive the absolute best quality of care and highest standard of professionalism in Northern Virginia.
