Not Just An "Agency"
We don't just "place" independent home care personnel with clients for a fee. Our Home Care Aides are W-2 employees, not independent contractors. That's an important difference from many other companies, who designate their staff as independent contractors to avoid paying payroll taxes. The IRS says that employers can direct only the result of the work done by independent contractors, not the means and methods of accomplishing the result. At Ready Hands, the "means and methods" are important to us. We want to monitor performance and supervise our staff, so that your needs and expectations are met.

Our History
Ready Hands was founded in 2002 by Granger Benson, M.D., an Internal Medicine physician, and Sue Benson, R.N., B.S.N., a Registered Nurse. Their professional and volunteer experiences with elderly patients convinced them of the need for compassionate, accountable home-based support services. Ready Hands has a simple mission: to help our clients remain safely independent in a residential setting.
A Virginia-Licensed Home Care Organization
Virginia law says that a company offering "hands-on" assistance with personal care (bathing, dressing, toileting assistance, etc.) must be licensed as a home care organization. Ready Hands is licensed by the Virginia Department of Health to provide such services. Many companies aren't. Licensure means that Ready Hands complies with extensive regulations designed to protect patients and their families and undergoes detailed bi-annual inspections.
Bonded & Insured
Ready Hands maintains fidelity bonding, professional liability insurance and general commercial liability insurance in amounts required for Virginia-licensed home health providers. Many companies don't provide this level of protection for their clients.
Physician-Managed
Dr. Benson and Sue Benson are dedicated full time to making Ready Hands the best service of its kind in our region. One of them visits every prospective client at no charge to learn his or her needs, explain what we do, talk with family members and make sure any planned services will be safe and beneficial. They make free supervisory visits at least every 90 days. They assist and advise clients and families who are grappling with difficult long-term care issues. Physician involvement also means that Ready Hands employees get the guidance they need to safely help clients who live with chronic illness or disability.
